What is a bio-district, what is it based on, and how can it contribute to the development of local communities?

The new Serbia Organika brochure, “Bio-Districts – Connecting Nature and Society Rooted in Organic Production,” provides a concise and accessible overview of the bio-district concept and its importance in connecting organic production, the local economy, nature protection, tourism and local communities.

Through the brochure, you can learn what a bio-district is, its key principles and benefits for producers, consumers, local communities and other stakeholders, how it is initiated and established, who can get involved, and what role different local actors can play.

A special section is dedicated to the Kolubara Bio-District, the first bio-district in Serbia, presented as an example of the development of this model through its activities, achievements and experience in connecting local producers, organizations and other actors.

The brochure is intended for producers, citizens and consumers, local institutions, organizations, businesses, donors and anyone interested in learning more about bio-districts or getting involved in their development.

The brochure was prepared with the support of the German Development Cooperation (GIZ), through the “Green Economy in Serbia” project.

📘 The brochure is available in Serbian and English.
